Submit

Vector is open to submissions on a rolling basis. Articles are typically 2,000 to 4,000 words, although we also invite queries about all lengths of articles. Contact vector.submissions@gmail.com.

Vector especially welcomes contributions that can appeal both to scholars of science fiction and to non-academic fans. Contributors are advised to familiarise themselves with the style and tone of the journal prior to submitting. We seek lively, accessible, engaging articles, underpinned by rigorous and careful research. Contributors will receive a copy of the journal. Vector also regularly publishes interviews, and welcomes queries in this respect.

We also do themed issues; forthcoming themes are likely to include: ‘SF and Economics,’ ‘African and Afrodiasporic SF,’ and ‘Speculative Art.’ Our Spring issues are devoted to a “Best Of” roundup of the previous year. (For an example, you can read Paul-March Russell’s review of High-Rise, from our 2016 round-up).

All submissions will also be considered for the website.

Call for Submissions: SF and Economics

Our next themed issue, scheduled for late 2018, will address economics in science fiction and fantasy. How do economic themes appear in SFF? What can SFF writers learn from economists, and vice-versa? Can SFF help us to develop alternatives to capitalism? The full CfP can be read here.  Some resources from Jo’s blog that you may find inspiring or helpful: a list of suggested topics, a list of suggested secondary reading, and the Economic SFF database.
