This week’s story is “The Slows” by Gail Hareven. Discussion kicks off on Sunday, although probably slightly earlier than usual.

Oh, great, another New Yorker story. Niall, why are you doing this to us?

  2. Chance Says:

He only knows three websites that publish short stories …

  3. Niall Says:

That would certainly explain why the sixteen stories I picked come from ten different venues, yes. :-p

  4. Eric Says:

Looking forward to seeing folks’ opinions on this one. It really stood out to me when it first appeared.

The only thing I don’t like about the New Yorker is their fetish for sticking cartoons into the middle of stories where cartoons don’t belong. Especially grating on the website — it’s not as if they have a page limit.

  5. Rose Fox Says:

Eric: Use AdBlock Plus to block everything from the URL *cartoonbank.com* and the cartoons will disappear.

  6. Martin Says:

Not only do the cartoons not belong, they are also shit. Thanks for the tip, Rose.

Or read the printable version of the story http://www.newyorker.com/fiction/features/2009/05/04/090504fi_fiction_hareven?printable=true

Or click on Print at the top of the story.
